My battle came during the last period of the day, 7th grade PE. I started a soccer unit today, and I think they really wanted to test me on my first day. They talked the entire time, did not listen to directions, and overall just did not do much correctly. I just had no idea what to do with them by the end of class, even my co-op leaned over to me at the end and said I was nicer than her because they would be running laps by now if it were her. I was not going to resort to that on the first day. However, Early in the class period I told them that my second graders were listening better than them today. Later, when they still were goofing around and not taking anything seriously I told them to Criss-Cross applesauce (which means sit indian style for those of us that grew up before the year 2000) They gave me some weird looks, and finally did it. So I proceeded to tell them I am going to treat them the same age as they are acting; and if they would like to sit like that every time I talked I could arrange that. The game we played after that little "peptalk" did not get a lot better. So we ended class with a "I was disappointed in how you guys acted today, and I expect more respect tomorrow" speech. So wish me luck as I enter that classroom tomorrow, because before class I was the cool college kid who sat in on their classes, but now I am that stupid student teacher:) Can't win them all right. I learned a lot today about what it is going to take to survive in a classroom. And survive is the key word here...that is all I am trying to do. Students learning is a bonus right now.
My day after school today just added a little to my frustrations. I had methods class from 4:20-6 and then had to deal with my dead car that was sitting in the parking lot from the night before. My friend jumped it for me, and I drove it home, only to turn it off and realize that it would not start again. Who knew you had to let it run for like 30 min to let it recharge! You really do learn something new every day. So after a phone call to my dad and jumping another time, I took a nice drive around town to let it recharge. Thanks dad for your help and putting up with all of my phone calls. Love you!!!
The day certainly did not go how I expected it to, but what fun would that have been?
2 Corinthians 12:9 "But he said to me'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ's power may rest on me"
I am glad that you are not having anymore problems with the car. It sounds like the classroom is enough to deal with.
